Can an ordinary shingles shot lower your risk of dementia? In 2025, one of the cleanest studies in years said maybe. People who got the live shingles vaccine were about 20% less likely to be diagnosed with dementia over the next seven years. The reason to care isn't just the result. It's how the study was built. Wales rolled out the vaccine with a strict birthday cutoff, and that accident of policy created a natural experiment almost as clean as a randomized trial.
